Stuff on feet (pleopods)

Post by augustus4842 »

Hello, this forum has helped me immensely when I first started!

Has anyone seem these green (ish?) things on their supershrimp's feet (pleopods)? They are not eggs, they are smaller. At first I thought they were algae growing on them? Some shrimp seem to have it on their tails too.

I can't find any information on Cladogonium in opae ula. It looks different though. It's not bright green and doesn't look as fern-y.

I first noticed these a year ago but didn't really question it. Now it seems more of the shrimp have them. I think each tank has under 100 shrimp, now it seems like 5 or so have the stuff on their feet on each tank. They do not seem to be acting any differently. The tank is still reproducing and there are usually some babies floating around.

The only newish thing I've done since 2024 is start feeding them maybe once a a month (or once every 2 months). I've fed them TopFin Shrimp pellets, Omega One Catfish pellet, Sera fish flakes, Glas Garten baby shrimp food and spirulina powder. Basically anything I feed my other freshwater fish/shrimp.

Should I be worried?

I've had both tanks for over 10 years.
Both 3 G tanks
No filtration, aeration, heater
Temps range from 56-78 F
ph 8
salinity 16% (1.012 d20/20)
salinity 12% (1.01 d20/20)
alkalinity 50
super-hard water 300+ppm?
0 nitrate, nitrite, chlorine, ammonia
has coral decorations with sand and a whole bunch of algae growing on the glass
Incandescent light is on for 12 hours a day.

One of the tanks have some intestine looking floating algae and macro algae.
This same tank has a couple ghost shrimp.
