New Yellow Opae tank

Post by Corucia »

Following up on my earlier post regarding my yellow Opae sub-population, I decided to set up a dedicated tank to isolate the yellow variants and see if they might establish a breeding colony. After close examination, I was surprised to find over a dozen mostly or entirely yellow examples in one of my tanks (vs. the five or six I thought were initially there) and managed to move them to this new set-up. I’ll keep the forum posted as they mature in their new ecosystem.

That's awesome! It'll be really exciting to see when they start breeding! Can’t wait to hear how they settle into their new home!

Thanks John. They are doing well and it’s interesting to see that they are generally more shy / less active than their red counterparts. For almost a week they seemingly all hid and I feared that something had happened with the water chemistry and they all died in the rocks. But over the past week they’ve periodically been more social and coming in and out of the rocks. Will post some pics when/if they berry

I'm glad you decided to set up a tank for these guys! :) They are hiding more because the tank is new and still getting established, plus there is plenty of food right where they are so they don't have to run around the entire tank and actively look for it. That's why they are less active at the moment. That will change once they reproduce and more shrimp start looking for more biofilm to pick on. Other than the coloration these shrimp are exactly the same as the red ones.
