Hello again,
My local fish store just happened to have some marine macroalgae handy - red species - the other day. It looks like a Halymenia species. Has anyone had good luck acclimating them (or other similar macros) to the salinity of opae ula? I've started trying to transition it over but I'm not sure how fast or slow that I need to transition it. Any suggestions?
Thank you!
Ryan

Re: Opae ula and macroalgea
I've uploaded a photo of the algae. Currently I have it in a jar with a specific gravity of about 1.020

Really neat looking algae. I Think the shrimp would get lost as there would be little contrast. The salinity maybe high for breeding. At least I have not tried growing them at that salinity.

You can lower the salinity very slowly, the alga may adapt.
Re: Opae ula and macroalgea
well the algae hated my guts. I didn't lower the salinity slowly enough and it started to look worse and worse-though the shrimp LOVED it. Thankfully I had gotten a lot more than I need so I had kept some at 1.020 in a separate jar. I tossed the distressed algae back in with the rest and it seems to be recovering thank goodness. I'll try lowering the salinity over a month or two and try my luck again at some point.
Thanks everyone
