Cycling my largest Opae ula aquarium ever

Post by Aquarimax »

I have been keeping Opae ula for a little over 20 years. I have a 2 gallon, a 3 gallon, 5.5 gallon, and a 10 gallon dedicated to these shrimp. I have recently set up another 2 gallon and now a 20 gallon. Here is a shot of part of the 20 gallon tank. It’s got several weeks to go before it’s ready for shrimp, but as you can see, it’s got Muatafa’s macroalgae and some
MTS snails.

I do have a lot of tanks… I guess I have a lot of reasons, too 🤣
One is positive redundancy. If something were to happen to one of the tanks, I’d still have others.
Another is that one of the tanks is in my office at work to help me de-stress.
An additional reason is that I like to tinker with different setups and see what I (and the shrimp) like best. For example , I have some tanks with macroalgae, some without, and one or two with mini moss balls.
I have also drawn quite a few others into the opae ula hobby. 🦐🦐🦐

Algae started spotting the glass in the 20 gallon. I put in about 25 shrimp from another tank. Interestingly, they have been congregating on just a few rocks, rather than roaming the tank as they do in other aquaria. I’m sure it’s temporary…just interesting to note.
