How many shrimp for a 10 gallon tank

Post by Carnivine »

I have a 10 gallon tank and I am planning on buying 12 shrimp. Would 12 shrimp do okay and breed in a 10 gallon or would they need a smaller tank?

You don't *need* a smaller tank but it would look better. 10 gallons will look awfully empty with 12 shrimp. 10 gallons could easily support several *hundred* opae ula!

As others have said, 10 gallons will be fine. The 10-gallon may appear mostly empty for a while with only 12 shrimp, but they should populate it quite effectively, given enough time. I put a few dozen in a 10-gallon, and didn’t see much of the shrimp for a while, so I added about 50 more. That worked better, and given long enough, they had hundreds of babies.
