My tank is quite a mature tank which i bought from a shop... it was already a thriving tank with quite a few berried shrimps and a number of larvaes and shrimplets... there are probably abt 200 shrimps now... the shop owner claimed that they started out with just 30+ shrimps...

After i bought it home, the shrimps stop getting berried for at least 3-4months... then it began to get berried again... On and off there are at least 20 shrimps getting berried but non of them ever release the larvae... this led me to wonder is it the light that is affecting them...

There are plenty of hiding places for berried females... but they will come out when i feed them with some shrimp food every 3-4 weeks... thats when i discover that they do get berried but never release the eggs... at first i thought maybe they just needed more time to get used to a new environment after moving...

Previously the tank was kept in a shop with 24h airconditioning... now it sits in my living room with avg temperature of ard 28-30 degree... maybe this is another reason?
These shrimp are very adaptable, so unless its quite well below or above average room temperature I doubt temperature would bother them much. As for the light, I myself have a fairly bright one on my tank 12 hours a day, and my shrimp have bred fine, though the breeding has slowed down considerably now that the shrimp population has multiplied several times over from the initial batch I brought from Mustafa.

On that note, how big is your tank? Perhaps with 200 shrimp the tank has reached about as many as it can hold, and the shrimp are self-regulating their numbers? I've heard they do this, though I always assumed it was done by not breeding at all, not that they would berry and then fail to carry them to hatching.

My tank is some odd shape glass tank... i roughly gauge it about 25-30 litres... i think there are still plenty of rooms for more shrimps...

The shrimps were still breeding normally in the shop... it only stopped when i bring it home... so i reckon it must be something i did wrong... or the environment plays a part...

Ryangiggs, besides the temperature difference and the new light with strong leds (Zedlight UFO, is it?), what else might be different? Did the store personnel feed the shrimp at the store? The fact that they’re berrying means the conditions are good for adults, maybe something isn’t quite right for larvae. Have you thought about removing the new light just to see if that was it? Or stop feeding for a month. Are there berried females in the tank now that you could try these out?

Yes i am using UFO... i have already lowered the intensity to see if it is the problem...

The store was feeding the shrimps once per week with a few pellets... but as i was using a much stronger light... i see some significant algae growth on the glass so i only feed them roughly once a month... maybe i will try feeding even less...

There are currently 3-4 berried females in the tank... will continue to observe further... will take off the light if necessary...

thanks for all the suggestions!

Just stop feeding until all the algae is gone. My guess is that you'll start seeing larvae again.
