I have until next week or so until I recieve my cherry shrimp. I have already gotten rid of a bunch of my fish and I currently have 5 neon tetras and 4 white clouds in a 20 gallon. Are these suitable tankmates and will they most likely eat any offspring of the cherry shrimp?

I think the white clouds will be okay. Neons, despite their size and reputation, are carnivores. I would expect them to hunt your baby shrimp. Schools of small tetra are remarkably good at hunting. I have witnessed a school of cardinals decimate a krib spawn.

i haven't yet had any offspring to brag about with any of my shrimp, but the neons i have in the same tank with them so far have left them alone. the main reason for that is their size, of course. if you do manage to get offspring, i'd put them into a grow out tank until they are big enuff before introducing them to a possible meal tank. as long as they are small enuff, they will be a fish's next meal.

I guess I'll trade in the fish for store credit and make the tank a shrimp only tank. Thanks for your help.

you can still keep the neon wit hthe shrimp, just provide the shrimp with lots of hiding place using moss, you will soon find lots of baby shrimp hiding below it.

So you would say to get rid of the white clouds and to keep the neons?

you can probably keep both the neons and the white clouds, as long as you have plenty of hiding spaces... even then, u will lose a few baby shrimp here and there. as soon as one of the neons or white clouds spot a shrimp small enough to eat, they'll become a meal. if u don't mind losing a few, it's ok to keep in there. an alternative is to move the momma shrimp and newborns to a grow out tank. that way u can still maximize chances of survival until they are big enuff to not be eaten.

I'll probably just make my tank shrimp only. I think they are more interesting than fish and if I want some fish I'll eventually get another tank.
