I would like to know if my KH is in line with what my PH, not sure yet about my GH. I have been learning alot from these forums and for that I thank everyone. I bought a "new" KH/GH test kit today and should have went with my instinct not to buy it cause it looked old. I tested my water and the results were,
PH 7.8-8.0, KH 8, GH ? It not working cause think the bottle is old and I'm going to return the test kit in the morning. My test kits are all API Aquarium Pharmaceuticals.
My tap water ph is 7.6 and I was able to figure out from research on several forums that my 7.8-8.0 ph in the tank is due to evaporation. I have been topping off for the past 6 years with tap water when ever the water evaporates. Twice in the past 2 years when I was not keeping up with my tank the water evaporated by 40% and I would just full it back up. I'm going to start filling with RO/DI when I get evaporation and will be doing 50/50 RO/DI and tap until I get my water more in balance with what comes out of my tap. I migh keep doing 50/50 to help with some of the low grade CRS I have in the tanks since they don't like to high of a ph.
So I'm aiming for 7.2 PH, what should be my KH/GH to keep my rcs, crs and amanos happy. I don't want to mess to much with the water chem for the crs since they are low grade. I read that they do well with a ph of up to 7.6 since they are low grades. Hopefuly thats true.
