Shriiiiimmmp! They're here! After looking at ghosts and amanos so long, these juvie cherries seem so tiny! We'll see see how they do, they are acclimating as we speak.

Well, the shrimps decided to scare me, but I think they're ok. When I first put them in, it was like Sunday at the races... most of them were swimming like crazy! They kept trying to "land" on the amanos, too, which started to freak THEM out. I aclimated the cherries very carefully (slowly adding tank water to their water, floating them in the tank to equalize the temperature) so I'm not sure what it could have been. Maybe it was just "eek eek! I'm in a new tank!" , because they have all calmed down now and are crawling and picking at stuff, and I didn't change anything. They seem to be coloring up pretty well too... they were pretty much all clear when I got them, and they are quite a lot redder now.

Sorry I haven't responded. On this forum (becaue Im new to the shrimp hobby) I tend not to post. I am more of a reader. That is why I like this diaries/journals so much! They are very educational, Im reading John's aswell

I currently do not have any shrimp as I still ned the sponge filter. Can you believe they don't sell them at any fish stores or pet stores near my house? I even went to PetSupermarket and they have a sponge filter in every single one of their fish tanks but they don't sell them!

So yeah .. Im either going to get them online (ugh I hate S&H fees!!) or convince my Dad to drive me from Miami,FL to Tamarac,FL to Big Al's Aquarium Super Store. BTW, only Big Al's in the U.S (they have many in Canda) and it is gigantic! Plus very cheap so hopefully I will have luck there, and for sure I will buy other things though I don't know what they might be but I won't be able to resist! (well besides the air pump). I am going to get RCS btw and I have a 5.5 gallon, I hope that if breeding goes well then I can sell the RCS and buy a 10g or a bit bigger for them

Oh and I am growing some "Hardy Aponogeton Bulbs" in my 55 gallon turtle tank that I bought in Wal-Mart. They grow fast I put them in yesterday and this morning I already saw some tiny sprouts (And what looks like a coat of some white stuff?). Okay that is it for my HUGE reply.

Thanks you for the contributions Julian. I still keep reading and posting so I can learn more and more to better care for my shrimp. Hope the new tank goes well for you, I would also probably get a heater if it gets cold where you will be keeping them

I don't think Ill need a heater but if I see that it drops lower than 70 F I will add one. My room is unusually cold but I don't think it ever drops lower than 70 F! I'm from Miami, Fl

So, I could have sworn I posted this the other day, but I guess I forgot to push the button or something.

So, found one dead cherry, but the rest seem fine, am finding lots of molts, and one of the larger females seems to be developing a saddle. Yay! Due to fear of any babies getting eaten, I decided to move the ghost shrimp to my plant overflow tank, and low and behold, the next day my big female was berried! The eggs are kinda brown, rather than the yellowish color I've seen in pictures of berried ghosts, so I'm kinda doubting they're fertile, but we'll see. She's been hanging on to them for a couple of days now though... so who knows.

Yes, it's the ghost that's berried, no berried cherries yet, sorry I wasn't more clear. Anyway, it's been four or five days now, and she's still hanging on to the eggs, so I'm guessing that means they're fertile. They're also turning a lighter color, more khaki than brown. Time to invest in a net breeder, probably.

Whelp, ghost momma seems to have dropped most of her eggs (infertile? inexperienced? who knows

). Still carrying a few though, so we'll see what happens.

Also, my male cherries are swimming around like CRAZY today, so I think somebody molted.

It's funny, the females I'm seeing, the males ignore, so I must have one hiding in the rocks that's driving the boys crazy. In any case, they sure are fun to watch, and maybe I'll have babies in a couple of three four weeks.
