hey guys,
I feel really bad that I haven't been around recently...My computer died so I have to use my parents computer, which is very slow and old, so I don't use it often. I'll be back on frequently, when my computer gets repaired.
My tank is doing so-so. I'm having an issue with dwindling numbers of shrimp, I beleive I have found the culprate to be small beetles. Our house has been overrun with these little beetles, and they keep drowning in the tank. Normally, in fish tank, a small little beetle isn't going to be a big deal, although I think it is a very big deal in a shrimp tank, since they are so sensitive to tank parameters. i'm thinking of just sealing off the entire tank with press-n-seal wrap.
I'll let you know how it goes when I can.
My Amano had its eggs hatch too, although I was just too busy to try and rear them....I'll shoot for next time.
Take care everyone,
-John

Hey guys, i'm finally back!
My 10g tank seems to be doing well, I see more Cherry shrimp.
My 6g, with the Dwarf puffer and 3 Amanos is doing well too. I thing the Amano female is happy, she got more eggs a week after the others hatched. I've got a spare 10g, so I may try raising them...although im scraping the bottom of the bucket for cash right now, after the christmas season. Hopefully i'll be getting that job soon....
I do have a dillema though...My friend gave his mom a fishtank for christmas, and they just got their first fish. Unfortuneatly, the petstore sold them a Bamboo shrimp as one of their first critters to put in there...Its an un-cycled tank....I'd give the bamboo shrimp maybe a 5% chance of survival? Theres also a Dwarf gourami, and unfortuneatly a channel cat of some kind in there too....I figure my options are to tell him the shrimp is going to die, and offer to take it myself, or give them a filter cartridge of mine, to prevent too strong a ammonia spike. I fear the other fish in the tank, would harass the little filter feeder though.
I think what i'll do is give them a mature filter cartridge , and offer to take the shrimp. I'll advise them to return the catfish too, but thats not a topic for this forum
I apologize if that topic is not apropriate for this forum.
I'll post pictures of the berried Amano later.

Poor bamboo shrimp...
If it were me, I'd bring over some seeded filter media, and either swipe the bamboo shrimp from the tank and bring her/him home, or buy it from your friend's mom, or do anything it took to get the shrimp out of the tank.
Good luck if you try to raise the Amanos!
I'm trying to setup another 30 gallon tank for a shrimp tank, but I keep hitting "speed bumps" along the way.

Good to hear from you, hope you had happy holidays.
The mature filter cartridge would be a tremendous help and may save the animals after all.or give them a filter cartridge of mine, to prevent too strong a ammonia spike. I fear the other fish in the tank, would harass the little filter feeder though.
You can offer to keep the shrimp until they have a suitable environment for it. You are helping to save animals and that is always a good thingI think what i'll do is give them a mature filter cartridge , and offer to take the shrimp. I was too late...The Bamboo shrimp had already passed away
They were going to return the body and exchange it for another one, but I instructed them otherwise. I also advised that they return the cat fish. I feel bad, but we both totally forgot to get the mature filter cartridge from one of my tanks before he left , I'll see him again in 2 days. I'll write it on my hand or something.

Hey guys!
Wow...It's been a really long time since i've dropped by! Sorry
My cherrie shrimp tank is doing so-so. I think i've lost a portion of the original population, but i'm not entirely sure. During the winter, I didn't see very many and thought I had killed a lot of them. As soon as spring came in and it got warmer, I see more of them. Still not as many as newjohn first gave me, but a bunch of cherries and one ghost. I think the losses have to do with the beetles that kept 'sneaking' into remote portions of the tank and dieing, as well as me not being awsome about doing WCs.
Amanos are doing great! They continue to grow and are doing very well.
Peppermint shrimp is doing very well too, he has grown a lot.
I'll try and get a tank shot later....java moss is covering almost the entire bottom of the tank.
I've been pretty busy...doing college stuff etc. Hopefully i'll be able to drop by more often now.
