Sediments on the substrate

Post by ryangiggs »

I noticed that there is a layer of sediments on top of the substrate... i guess that is years of dirt or poops resting at the bottom...

Do we siphon it out or just leave it alone? I’m afraid that disturbing the sediments might stir up more dirt and affects the water quality...

Pretty sure all these are organic matters... so over time it will probably decay... i am just concern will the decay cause a spike in ammonia lvls...

Perhaps unfinished food and poop... I feed very minimally... abt once every 2-3 months... with those spirulina powder... I have light on for abt 8 hours a day so there are enough algae for them...

So that layer of sediments must be either of those...
