In fishkeeping a cycled tank will have zero ammonia, zero nitrIte with a low reading for nitrAte. In shrimp keeping the nitrAte levels can be as low as zero in a cycled tank.

Is the tank cycled? How long has the tank been set up?

I also don't use ferts.

Thanks Mustafa. Yes they are kept in plain old city water, born from shrimp born in my tank. According to my test strips the PH is around 7 but test strips aren't the most accurate. If I could get hold of some different types of shrimp I would but not only am I limited by availability but also PH. I discussed taking the tank down but hubby thinks it would be a shame to.

I might change the substrate to sand and see how the PH sits.

My seven cherries have a 21g they share with a bn plec and some blue ramshorns - no reproduction. My tiger shrimp live in a 10g they share with two nerites and Mr Pink (my apple snail) and they won't stop having shrimplets. :lol: I might move the cherries into the 10g and see if that helps but then ...

I'm also having the same thing with my cherries.....the females have nice yellow saddles and i'm seeing the odd moult but no eggs. I'm starting to think I don't have any cherry males (again).

Did you change all of the sponges in the filter at once? That could cause your tank to go through cycling again....keep a close eye on your water parameters.

I'm with Neonshrimp on the chemicals issue....I don't add anything except water and dechlorinator.

I feed mine those sachets of bloodworm in vitamin jelly from time to time and bloodworm pellets.

One of my berried tigers has two eggs stuck on the outside of her body....will these be released during the hatch or will they be removed during a post natal moult? As long as there are no bn plecs or ottos in the tank nylons are fine.
