I don't have any problems with my driftwood.....I boiled it six times for around an hour each time over a period of two weeks and soaked it, changing the water daily during this time. My shrimp run all over it,nibble at it and shelter under it.

I had a problem with my old filter.....no matter what I did the shrimp would find their way inside.

I now use a sponge filter which they all love to crawl and nibble on and it's so much easier to clean.

There are grass shrimps in there now (feeder shrimp, though that's not why they are in there), doing quite well, though the fish have yet to be added.Mike Are these the shrimp you have in your tank that's cycling while you're adding ammonia into it? I have a few grass shrimp in the tank which don't...

I don't use ferts either....just water changes, moss balls and java moss.

In one of my tanks the light isn't on very often but the couple of moss balls in there are fine, healthy and green.

Hahahaha that's just too funny.

I did use a ruler but she wouldn't come up to the front of the glass. I'll drop one in the tank and wait patiently.

The female is fairly large but I wouldn't have a clue how to measure her. I would hazard a guess at around 2 inches.

My tigers are still constantly breeding....it's nice to see all different sized shrimp nibbling on java moss or sitting on the substrate. I also keep cherries in the same tank but although I bought four more last week I think I still don't have a male.

Perhaps you know some shrimp or fish keepers in San Diego that would be willing to donate some "used" filter sponges to help cycle the tanks faster?

I run a sponge filter meant for a 20g in my 10g tank. The smallest of tiger shrimplets can swim without being jiggled by any current. Just make sure it'll fit in your tank ok.
