Re: Hawaiian Red Shrimp...my turn.

Will FW bacteria adapt to brackish conditions, or is there a 3rd combination of "bugs" (different from the FW or SW species) that do the job in brackish water? I have multiple active FW sponge filters that could be used to jump-start the cycle if they're useful. What would be the best way/...

Re: Hawaiian Red Shrimp...my turn.

Would live rock from a SW tank be useful for establishing a suitable environment for these shrimp? I've found a source, but need to prepare for them first.

Re: Freshwater species of sponges?

I read something about fw sponges some time ago on another forum. Unfortunately, that forum is no longer open, so I can't go back and find the info now. However, it was posted by someone who had cultured fw sponges in a laboratory. Apparently the requirements of the simple critters are quite complex...

The tank was long-established before the cajuns were introduced (gravel and filtration is the same as yours), but the plant cover was limited. The hornwort is gradually thickening, and I've added a couple small pieces of driftwood covered with peacock moss to supplement the java moss and Crypt's. I'...

Red ramshorns don't eat any more plants than brown ramshorns, they're actually just the albino form of the same species.

So nice it's actually disgusting :-D I have had no success with the dwarf crayfish of either species as far as raising young. The tank formerly occupied by the cajuns now houses some albino BN pleco fry and 2 pairs of blackfin Goodeids. The cajuns disappeared one by one, and I never even saw a singl...

The problem with trying to ID shrimp from questionable sources will only become worse if they are kept together in the same tank. Being shipped together leads me to think they came from the same tank. (At least I certainly wouldn't mix shrimp from different tanks in the same bag...) If the odd shrim...

I'm no expert, but that doesn't look like any zhangjiajiensis I've ever seen, either live or in pics. Do you know whether the Minami were captive-bred and/or kept in a single-species tank? I have heard that they can be quite variable in color, but black w/brown stripe is a new one on me. Incidentall...

There's still some hope

I've been getting quite discouraged with the C. patzcuarensis. Most of them have died off for unknown reasons, while the shrimp and spixi's thrive and multiply. Even the few juvies I had seen haven't been (seen) for several weeks now, so I presume they have been recycled as well. Out of 20 there are...

I'd round up some 5 gallon buckets for the plants and critters. Pack plenty of plants in each bucket to give the shrimp and crays something to hang onto. Since it's only a short distance, the sterilite containers can be set up in the new location to hold an appropriate amount of the old water so you...

Would these be the "white stripe" variety from India?

Speaking of orange shrimp, how are your selective breeding projects coming along Mustafa? Any new developments, or progress with the several colors you had been working on?
