Re: dead shrimp equals canary in coal mine
Hi tws, thanks for sharing the infomation about your shrimp/bowl fountain. I just wanted to touch on the question about whether the shrimp died of starvation or not. It is unlikely your shrimp died because of lack of food. Most tanks/living environments are not sterile and will contain microorganism...

Re: How long do amano shrimp live?
Looks like you do have a hardy pair of amano shrimp, and since they are doing well for you in that tank I would leave them there. Hope they do well for you for a long time more

Re: How long do amano shrimp live?
Well, I think we can document that your amano shrimp has lived to be 6 years old in not so ideal conditions. I too have found them to be very hardy and have some still arounf after almost 4 years, not counting their age before I received them. Enjoy them while they are still with you and treat them ...

Re: Started off great, now not so much...
Sorry to hear you lost the last shrimp. Let us know if you decide to try again with another source of shrimp or start up a shrimp only tank (I like smaller nano tanks myself). Also, remember that almost all of us have had to learn by losing shrimp how to better care for them

Re: Started off great, now not so much...
Sorry to hear about your losses. I would let the remaining shrimp settle in and adjust to their new diet and see if there are any changes in their waste. It literally looked like a replica of a shrimp only white, eggs and all. I'm just glad I still have 2 (even though they both are likely the same s...

Re: Quick shrimp question.
Nice picture of the cherry red shrimp. Some pet shops don't know what types of shrimp they have and may mislable or just fail to update their livestock id. Hope they work out well for you.

Re: Wood shrimp died
Hi Randy, Sorry to hear about the losses. Sometimes there are causes that are not not detectable by conventional means or they are the effects of stress the shrimp went through before we aquire them (not the case here since you had them for 5 years). In your case it is more like likely to be due to ...

Re: brown leaves for shrimp
I guess the microorganisms broke down the leaf. I would also think that leaving them in direct sunlight will also allow algae to grow on them adding another food source to the mix

Re: First RCS Tank - Question
82 F is alright for Red Cherry shrimp. If you want to move the tank that is fine or you can find a small fan to help with cooling if you want to lower the temperature.

I think that overfeeding is the most important thing to look out for when my shrimp are concerned. I want to try this food myself in the near future.

Hi infopimp, I have heard that the original RCS look more like the lower C grade CRS and were then selectively bred to get the high grades we have today.
