Not that one can't keep shrimp alive in a 2.5 gal, but you would have more margin for error in a slightly larger tank, such as a 10 gal.

Anyone have any personal experience keeping these? (I've searched the net already, so am not looking for links...) How big do they get? And how predatory are they, if at all?

All the pics of the Philippine atyoid look like females. Do all your individuals really have that deep bodied pregnant appearance to them?

This link notes that the larvae are found in brackish water, so I guess I'm not going to be spawning these shrimp any time soon ...

15 of the "green Philippine Atya" arrived today. Quite expensive as far as these things go at $1/each. Size is about 1.5". All arrived in excellent shape, and were feeding within minutes of arrival.

Interesting behavior and quite pretty, even if I don't see much "green". Maybe they'll get greener ...

Dank je, Antoinette. Probably the same "Red Dragon", though my list says "Mindanao" and the German page says "Indonesia". I'll pass on the red dragons and try the green Atya this time. Will post pix in a week or two...

Anybody know anything about Green Atya from the Philippines? Or Mindanao "red dragon" Caridina? (Both about 1.5-2" and entirely freshwater, I gather.)

"Sex" exists and drives people, shrimp and most other living things for a purpose! And that purpose is typically defeated by inbreeding. In aquarium fish, one typically sees considerable degeneration relative to wild caught in fish that have been captive bred for many generations.

However ...

Moldy food is not good for anyone -- larvae, adults or humans. But rotting vegetation promotes the development of little critters -- sometimes called "infusoria" -- relished by baby fish and shrimp. Maybe that's what you were seeing.

This is my first post to this forum. I'm a relative newbie to shrimp, but have kept, bred and imported tropical fish for a long time.

If all goes well, I should be acquiring several pearl shrimp and green dwarf shrimp this Sunday. I was wondering if it would be OK to keep these together ...
