Re: Anyone have experience with springtails on biofilm?
I have some tanks with springtails. No idea where they came from, but they seem to not mind the brackish water. They are completely harmless and seem to just feed off the biofilm. I'm sure when they finally die they fall onto the water surface and then eventually become shrimp food.

Hey there!
Good looking tank! Before I answer your questions, I would like to point out that the sea fan in the background mostly causes trouble. They are not like stony corals made of minerals, but are made of mostly protein and decay slowly in the water polluting the tank and killing its ...

Re: Hi!!
No, they don't just survive in *lightly* brackish water, they even thrive in very brackish water (like ours for over 20 years) of half ocean salinity, and even in marine conditions. These snails are euryhaline. They occur, and reproduce, in mangrove swamps and estuaries and even directly in the ...

Re: NO ALGAE IN SIGHT
I think it's safe to say that your tank is ready. Just to be on the safe side, post a picture of your tank here so we can see if there is anything in your tank that shouldn't be there...i.e. will cause problems in the short or long run.

Have you had a chance to read our step by step setup instructions?

If you follow it to the "T", you will not have all the problems you just mentioned above. As Shrimplythebest said it correctly, Supershrimp tanks do ...

Re: Mini moss balls appear after six years!
That's great! The mossball probably disappeared behind some rock or decoration...possibly shrank and/or split into pieces...and voila...you have new mossballs years later. From the size of them I'd guess they are at least a year or two old already. This is truly an amazing plant!

Re: pH stuck at 6.5 and TDS at 9999+ppm
Of course your TDS is high, because you mixed salt into the water to make it brackish. :-D That's why TDS measurements are useless for Supershrimp. How did you check the pH? With the carbonate in the salt mix and the calcium carbonate from your substrate it seems it's almost impossible for the pH to ...

Re: How many shrimp for a 2.5 gal tank?
Hi there! You can start out with 10 and watch the population grow over time. However, with 10 shrimp you may only see about 5 at a time in the beginning if you have lots of hiding places. If you want more to observe I'd go with 20-30. Supershrimp don't produce much waste so you're not "overloading ...

Re: Supershrimp moss/algae ball
Supershrimp tanks can vary in salinity and there is no set salinity level that they absolutely have to be at. We gave a range in our articles here that works for us and we found to be optimal. That doesn't mean that things like evaporation won't affect those levels. You probably received a mossball ...

Re: New Yellow Opae tank
I'm glad you decided to set up a tank for these guys! :) They are hiding more because the tank is new and still getting established, plus there is plenty of food right where they are so they don't have to run around the entire tank and actively look for it. That's why they are less active at the ...

Re: Two years going strong…but no babies
Yep, that's the most likely issue. It can take a long time for the nutrients to get used up by the plants/aglae depending on how "dirty" the substrate was...we're talking months or even years in extreme cases. The reason why the shrimp don't breed is simple...they just don't feel comfortable ...

Re: Snails keep dying
It's really hard to say what's going on, but shrimp and snails get affected by different chemicals sometimes. I've had this happen too, where the snails did not make it but the shrimp were unaffected by whatever was in the water. Also, the snails are a little more cold sensitive than the shrimp, so ...

Re: Not sure what type of algae this is
Interesting, it's obviously some species of hair/string algae, but there are so many of them so it will be super hard to figure out what it is unless you start putting some strings under the microscope and dive deep into the scientific literature.

Re: Berried shrimp chased by other shrimp
Replying a little late here, but I wouldn't worry about shrimp chasing each other. These shrimp are incapable of hurting each other and the chasing stops eventually. Most of the time it's males chasing females for obvious reasons. I hope you added more prepared brackish water in the meantime. Don't ...
