Thanks for the journal! Great idea...I wish I thought of that.

A couple of thoughts, and I might be way off-base here:

1. I agree on the "no-boil" point. Any beastie that gets in your tank is sure to be murdered by the high ammonia.

I'm new to shrimp, but vet for fish. The best advice I ever got from my LFS (REAL good guys) was "don't fight your water." Your low Ph isn't too bad, but those drops can lead to a big crash with soft, acidic water. Buffer your water with gravel, etc. but I would recommend staying away from additives ...

I'm new to the shrimp game, but here's a suggestion...if you have LFS or Petco near you, why don't you just take a tap water sample in for testing? They should be able to tell you if there is anything funky going on, espcially if you ask them to run some metal tests.

My LFS also has R/O water ...

I was thinking about raising some Caridina cf. babaulti and I wanted to find out a little more about 'em.

Has anyone had success raising them? Are they an overly sensitive shrimp, or are they a little more hardy than normal?

I was thinking of raising them with cherries - they seem to like similar ...
